Welcome - and thank you for considering La Tourelle Resort, August Moon Spa, The Bistro and John Thomas Steakhouse.
As a small family owned business, we are committed to providing you with an exceptional Finger Lakes experience.
We believe in treating each guest as if they are a new friend we've invited to stay in our home.
We believe in protecting our environment and being a sustainable business.
We believe in giving back to our community, and celebrating all that is Ithaca and the Finger Lakes.
You will meet many members of our family during your stay. Our owner (and my father) Walter Wiggins is here regularly and is found most often at our nightly wine hour. I am at the resort almost every day along with family members - Kash, Phoenix, Jessica and Moorea, and we are honored to be at your service. You will also meet Leslie, our General Manager and her daughter Ashley, during your stay. We consider every one of our employees, guests and partners to be a part of our large extended family, and we all look forward to meeting you and getting to know you.
We invite you to walk our grounds, hike our trails, and watch the sunset from our gazebos. La Tourelle Resort & Spa is located on 70 acres of land and our Buck Trail connects with the Upper Buttermilk Falls State Park trail system. The hike from Upper Buttermilk to Lower Buttermilk is a beautiful, 60 minute downhill hike leading to a public natural swimming area at Lower Buttermilk Falls State Park.
We are particularly proud of our August Moon Spa. We offer a wide variety of massage and skin care treatments, manicures and pedicures. Our two tranquility rooms with fireplace and waterfall, our saunas, steam rooms and locker rooms are available for resort guest's relaxation at no charge during the spa's hours of operations. The Bistro is the newest addition to La Tourelle Resort and Spa. Located in our resort lobby, The Bistro serves breakfast daily, lunch Mondays through Fridays, and a fantastic weekend brunch. Our Executive Chef Angelina Tagliavento has created an interesting collection of breakfast and lunch choices that feature local ingredients from the Finger Lakes region and greater New York State. The Bistro offers a selection of Finger Lakes wines and Ithaca Beer and has an outdoor seating area to enjoy your meal. You may also have your breakfast or lunch delivered to your room or the spa.
Please don't be surprised to see a bride or two in our hallways. Our ground floor banquet room hosts many weddings, conferences and retreats. We are happy to give you a tour if you have a special event in mind. Outside our banquet hall is a covered outdoor patio that is open to our guests when we are not hosting an event. Our new Team Challenge and Growth Course is located in our woods, and is available for your business retreats, annual gatherings, and family reunions. Each member of our team knows that if, for any reason, you are unsatisfied with your experience, you may contact any member of our team and we will do whatever it takes to exceed your expectations.
Thank you for considering us, and we hope that we will have an opportunity to have you as our guest.
We Love Dogs
La Tourelle has three pet-friendly rooms - two rooms are located in the resort and have private outside entrances, and our Where the Wild Things Stay Pet Friendly Cottage is a sixty second walk from the main resort building. We have lots of lawns, ponds, trails and woods for dogs to explore - and Ithaca is a very pet-friendly community.
Our resident canine is Roxanne, an Alaskan Malamute who is usually found in front of our historic yellow barn. She has her own Facebook page - click here.
We love dogs, and invite you and your four legged family members to experience a fun getaway with us.
A Brief History of La Tourelle
Joyce and Walter Wiggins purchased the farm that is now La Tourelle Resort and Spa in 1965. All that was here was the farm house which was built in the 1880's, the big yellow barn, and 70 acres of farm land and forests. After a brief stint as a communal farm by a group of Cornell students, the farm house was converted to a restaurant in 1970. L'Auberge du Cochon Rouge featured fine French cuisine with Chef Etienne Merle at the helm.
The barn was converted to apartments in the mid-seventies, and currently contains two long term rental apartments and our very unique three-bedroom Yellow Barn Suite.
The first 35 rooms of La Tourelle were constructed in 1986, and it was managed by Joyce and Leslie as a lovely country inn. In 2005 we added 20 deluxe fireplace king rooms, August Moon Spa and a cafe - which is now The Bistro.
In 1994 a kitchen fire forced the closing of L'Auberge, which was reborn as John Thomas Steakhouse the following year under the direction of partner Mike Kelly.
The story keeps growing as we add new elements to the resort, like our Team Challenge and Growth Course.
That's our story........and we're sticking to it.
