GlassFest kicks off on Thursday night with the Glass Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and 2300°: GlassFest free and open to the public, Spend all day on Saturday and Sunday wandering along Historic Market St. filled with art and food vendors. Watch live glassblowing demos on the outdoor stage in Centerway Square, listen to music during Rock The Park on both days, enjoy activities for the whole family, and even stay late for fireworks on Saturday night! This summer at the Kids Rockwell Art Lab, step inside the framework of famous paintings and experience art like never before. Children and adults can enjoy a robust (imaginary) noontime meal in Grant Wood’s Dinner for Threshers, climb into a tent and explore camping gear in John Singer Sargent’s Camp at Lake O’Hara and add “corn husks” to the flower tower in Diego Rivera’s Corn Festival. Enter Clementine Hunter’s Big Chicken and get behind the reins of a giant rooster. Visitors can explore a small collection of Mona Lisa prints featuring the original and famous parodies, then step behind a cutout version and replace Mona Lisa’s face with their own. That’s why she could never be in the closet, making her a trailblazer when she started doing stand-up in the 1990s. She was the first openly lesbian comedian with an HBO Special and the first openly lesbian comedian on “Late Night with David Letterman.”
