Wondering what to do in Ithaca when the temperatures drop? Winter in the Finger Lakes is a season of natural beauty, cozy comforts, and festive fun. Whether you’re chasing frozen waterfalls or warming up with a glass of local wine, La Tourelle is the perfect place to start (and end) each winter adventure.

Explore the Outdoors
The region’s famous waterfalls transform into icy showstoppers this time of year. Stroll to nearby Buttermilk Falls from our backyard, or take a scenic drive to see the towering icy plunge of Taughannock Falls. Want to stay close to home? Our own 15-acre property is peaceful and snow-covered all season long—perfect for a winter walk.

Sledding & Ice Skating
Looking for some classic cold-weather fun? Head to Rice Hill for sledding and outdoor skating with a view. For indoor ice time, both Cass Park and The Rink offer public skating sessions with rentals available—ideal for a family outing or a spontaneous date night.

Seasonal Festivals
Ithaca lights up with winter festivals all season long. The Ice and Lights Festival fills downtown with glowing sculptures, family fun, and a one-of-a-kind ice bar. In March, the annual Chili Cook-Off brings the heat with bold flavors and local flair—perfect for warming up after a day outdoors.

Cozy Indoor Spots
When it’s time to thaw out, Ithaca’s cultural scene has you covered. Visit the Museum of the Earth or the Johnson Museum of Art to take in something new, or head to the historic State Theatre for a show, concert, or classic movie night.

Winter at La Tourelle
After a day of exploring, unwind fireside in one of our cozy rooms or suites. Let the cold melt away with a massage or sauna session at August Moon Spa, then grab a bite (and maybe a hot toddy) at The Lounge. Winter is the perfect time to slow down, reconnect, and savor the season.
