The Bistro at La Tourelle

An Idyllic, Farm-to-Table Ithaca Restaurant

The Bistro at La Tourelle remains a culinary jewel, “hidden” on a rolling, 70-acre farmstead approximately 3.5 miles south of Ithaca’s Cornell University. Ithaca, New York, Cayuga Lake’s southern temple, is a historic, undeniably scenic slice of the Finger Lakes, where old-world charm and natural beauty flawlessly meld. The region is known for its world-class vineyards, jaw-dropping waterfalls, and prestigious Ivy League universities. However, Ithaca itself, namely The Bistro at La Tourelle, attracts foodies from all across The Empire State (and far beyond). As one of the top-rated restaurants in Ithaca, The Bistro is continuously enhancing the menu and overall guest experience, thanks in large part to Executive Chef Anne Miller.

The Bistro: A Charming, Atmospheric Ithaca Restaurant

Hospitality runs in the family at La Tourelle, and the culinary vision is no different. Each patron is treated like family. Upon arrival, the French chateau-style architecture and the well-manicured, 20-acre lawn provide an intriguing glimpse into La Tourelle’s world of hospitality. When The Bistro is running at full capacity (COVID-19 restrictions are currently in place), the buzz of the restaurant—laughter, clanking silverware, soft music—enlivens the hotel’s spirit. Miller’s team utilizes fresh herbs and produce from the property’s garden, as well as the region’s finest artisanal farmsteads. Miller and Company only purchase locally-grown produce and farm-raised meats and dairy products. Thus, the menu shifts with the changing seasons. The end result is a decadent culinary voyage across the Seven Seas of flavor.

Brunch in the Time of COVID-19

To no one’s surprise, The Bistro at La Tourelle has had to change the way it does business in order to provide a safe, socially distant dining experience. These modifications include a 50 percent dining capacity, expedited in-room and on-the-go services, shortened hours, and menu simplification. Miller’s team now focuses on one of The Bistro’s core strengths: brunch. Because La Tourelle acts as a gateway to Buttermilk Falls State Park, Cayuga Lake, and Ithaca itself, many foodies prefer the brunch option, as it allows ample time for mid-afternoon and early-evening hiking, shopping, and sightseeing.

Repeat travelers gush about the creamy eggs florentine, blueberry pancakes, and the build-your-own omelet (with Lively Run goat cheese, asparagus, and fresh-picked tomatoes...yum!). The sandwiches, such as the sauteed mushroom and all-beef melt, are made with fresh-baked bread from the Ithaca Bakery. Start each day with a Bloody Mary or a maple bourbon flat white; both drinks utilize fine spirits from Finger Lakes Distilling.

La Tourelle: A Distinctive Luxury Hotel in Ithaca

The Bistro at La Tourelle remains one of the best restaurants in Ithaca on multiple online platforms, including TripAdvisor. Thus, reservations are highly recommended. La Tourelle itself is a splendid respite from the tires of daily routines. There’s never an offseason for natural beauty in the Finger Lakes, especially for those who relish frozen waterfalls, seasonally preserved mid-spill. Feeling uninspired about winter’s arrival?
